Today we hosted Dundee West at Hillwood looking to make up for our defeat in the last meeting.
We had started off really well, feeling our way into the game with some nice football and having the majority of possession. What a difference it makes when you’re standing at the side of the park and the team look like they’re playing with a ball and not a bomb but I digress. We had a few chances and got a few shots away but nothing troubling their keeper too much. Leon plays a great ball over and Justin’s diverting run puts Spurway through with just a centre half and goalie to deal with. Spurway like a hot knife through butter gets by the centre half, who does his shoulder trying to pull him back before he takes a pop outside the box and finds the net to make it 1-0! By about half an hour in we’re about 15-1 up on corners but thankfully we got something from one as it falls to Iain in the box who sends it home to make it 2-0! There was some doubt from the opposition if it was a corner on the run up to the goal but for once I’ll agree with the ref, he got it absolutely spot onNothing else to change score before the ref blows for HT.
HT 2-0
We spoke at halftime that the game was far from over, even though it probably should’ve been. We had wasted a few chances but it was done and we had to go out and finish the game off. Dundee had come out the better side to be fair to them but Jonesy the monk had the deck chair out. We reverted back to playing with a bomb again for a while and played a bit of hoof baw but it was getting us nowhere. We made a few changes and Spurway found himself at right back and Justin dropping into midfield. We were back to knocking about well again thankfully and you could tell something was coming. Justin picks up the ball in the middle of the park, carries it for a bit before playing Cubby through with a cracking ball - Cubby kindly gets shown the left side of the goal by the Dundee keeper and he sticks it there to make it 3-0! Almost instantly though Eddie Hall’s mini me is through 1v1 with the monk and beats him at his near post with a decent shot 3-1. We could probably dig out wee Tam Cox for not running his man but he knocked his wee pan in up to then so thankfully we were still 2 up. The way things were going you’d think Dundee were gonny get back level but thankfully everybody dug in and seen us out to the final whistle.
FT 3-1
That’s 4 meetings with Dundee this season and we’ve both won 2 a piece so neither can grumble. Everybody played excellent today for us though, we were up against it with a shorter than usual squad but absolutely everybody got stuck right in for each other it’s almost unfair picking a MOTM cause they all played their part.
