We were the hosts yesterday as we welcomed Glashire United FC to Hillwood for a friendly. It was our first game in 3 weeks and an opportunity to get important minutes in the legs as we look to push on for the last 3 league games.
After a delayed kick off we got started, and we had started well all things considered. We thought we were a goal up early on after Scott Dunlop got himself through 1 on 1 with the goalie and after a 1/2 with the crossbar found the net but only to be ruled offside🤦♂️🤷♂️.
Not long afterwards though Lee Hunt intercepts in the middle of the park and plays a great ball into the path of Chris Omnet who lobs the keeper from about 20 yards out 1-0. 5 minutes later the game was tied again as a ball splits our centre halves and the Glashire striker goes 1 on 1 with Callum and find the net 1-1. Around 25 mins in and a ball is fired along the deck and knocked in at the back post to put Glashire in front 1-2. Glashire could only hold onto their lead for about 15 mins as Scott Dunlop wins the ball back in the final third, goes a run to the bi line before laying it off perfectly to Steven Swan who hits it first time with a tidy finish to bring it back level 2-2. Just before half time Paul Duffin plays a great ball over the top right into the path of Chris Omnet who gets his second of the day with yet another chip 3-2.
HT 3-2
We made a lot of changes for the second half to get more of the squad involved. It wasn’t long into the half when a penalty was awarded to Glashire. Their centre half was sent up to take it who sends it to the James’ right to make it 3-3. 5 minutes later we were back in front as the ball drops to Lee Kane inside the box who takes it onto his right foot and knocks it in to put us back in front and to reinstate pecker Sundays 4-3. Almost straight from kick off, Lee Kane at the other end decided he wanted air time while in our box and dished out a brexit challenge to give Glashire yet another penalty (pecker Sundays revoked). Yet again the centre half steps up which is saved initially by James but unluckily finds its way in 4-4. 5 mins later Lee Kane is replaced due to an injury so it was quite an eventful 10 minute cameo from the wee man. Just before the final whistle, a ball is played over the top from Glashire’s right back which is not dealt with whatsoever and eventually falls at the feet of the Glashire front man who finds the net to make it 4-5.
FT 4-5
All in all, despite the scoreline there were positives to take from the game. Everyone got plenty of minutes and we got to try out a couple of new things as well. All the best to Glashire for the rest of the season🤝
