Clyde Apollo 4-2 Strathclyde UTD

It was a nice sunny day at Hillwood this morning as we welcomed Strathclyde Utd.

There was a minutes applause before the game in memory of Bryan McLaughlin, the former Strathy goalkeeper💛

The game started well for both sides, Strathy played a high line catching our strikers offside repeatedly. Strathclyde found themselves getting more and more into the game but could not break down our defence. We were pretty toothless in the final third, the only notable shot we got off (if you can call it that) was a tame left footed effort by Ryan Duncan which was pass-back-esque to the opposition goalie. This was shortly followed by a substitution, as Ryan hurt his groin(ego). The rest of the half was pretty uneventful other than new signing Craig Weir pushing the goals back with his forehead at high speed, he was alright though - see below👇

The knock to the head worked wonders for the new guy, as he took on 3/4 Strathclyde players and stuck it in the top pokey. 1-0 Apollo. Almost straight from kick off though Strathclyde were back level as we never cleared our lines and got punished. There was a collision between the Strathy front man and our goalie, and after a good 10 minutes of the magic sponge the penalty was taken and slotted home to make it 2-1 to Strathy. The Strathclyde lead wasn’t for long as new boy Craig Weir put us back level for his brace which was selflessly put on a plate for him by the captain Lewis McNab. 2-2. It was a corner to Apollo knocked in by Dale Russell, it was fumbled in the box for a bit before a thunderbastard by left winger (centre half🤷‍♂️) Jamie Bell! 3-2 Apollo. A carbon copy of the first penalty went our way this time which was handed to Craig Weir who slotted it home to give him a debut hat trick🎩4-2 Apollo! We never took our foot off the gas but were unable to put anymore away before the ref blows for FT.

3pts on the board and good minutes for the new faces coming in as the team takes shape(again!). All the best to Strathclyde for the rest of the season and again our deepest condolences go out to all of Bryan’s family and teammates🤝💛
