It was our last game of the season today as we welcomed Gryffe to Holm Park.
After a free week last week we were hoping to get off to a flyer and that’s exactly what we got when we eventually got started after a comet issues delayed kick off the game was pretty evenly contested until the deadlock was broken 18 minutes in when Justin sends a ball over the top which the keeper comes for but Ridgey gets there first and lobs the goalie to make it 1-0! We were pressing high knowing fine well it would eventually pay dividends, and 26 minutes in that’s exactly what happened. Lewis & Wardy forced the Gryffe fullback to play it back the way before it’s intercepted by Ridgey who chips it into the net 2-0! We were caught out this time with a ball over the top which we never dealt with put the Gryffe front man 1v1 and slots it away 2-1. Straight from kick off Jay Brown takes it by a couple of the Gryffe players before playing it to Ridgey who picks Wardy out wide who smashes it into the box to be knocked in by the eyebrow of the skipper Lewis McNab. 3-1! Lubo almost got his 2nd of the day with a thunderbastard but was denied by the crossbar.
HT 3-1
We knew that a 2 goal lead is a fragile one, and we wanted another to help cement our lead. That wasn’t to be though as a penalty was awarded to Gryffe after an excellent challenge by our keeper Ryan Mack. This was converted to narrow our lead to 1. 3-2. It wasn’t long before we restored our 2 goal lead thankfully after a ball out wide by Baker to Stibbsy who played in Ridgey who’s first effort was blocked by the defender which then landed perfectly for him to smash it home. 4-2. It was a tense game after this and the game opened up and it was end to end. 88 minutes in though and Stibbsy has the ball in the middle of the park who plays in Ridgey who plays a 1/2 with Tony Greer and finds himself 1v1 with the goalie and finds the net to finish off the game. 5-2!
FT 5-2
We couldn’t have asked for a better end to the season with the sun splitting the sky and 3 points in the bag and rounded off a rollercoaster of a season. 3 different managers and the biggest turnover of players imaginable, and we still maintained our pre-season aim of comfortably surviving relegation. Now though we’ve got the stability we’ve needed with the management team and squad - we’ll have a rest before going again for pre-season
