Yesterday we headed to Toryglen to face Glasgow Saints with a barebones squad in the GDSFC Division 1.
We started off strong and got the ball moving well. We were nearly one up in the first 6 minutes when a corner was whipped in and headed just inches wide. Again a few minutes later we were unlucky not to find ourselves in front as a ball was sent over the top to Paul Ridge who sent it just over the bar. 12 minutes in though at the third time of asking, a ball was sent over to Ridgey again who takes a shot outside the box and beats the keeper. 0-1! Both teams had chances are this but both unable to beat the opposition goalie. Just before halftime, the GS player takes a pop around 30 yards out and finds the net in Gregory Vignal/Rab Douglas-esque fashion. 1-1.
HT 1-1
It was relayed at halftime that we need to take our chances or it could come back and bite us in the a***. And that’s exactly how the second half panned out🤦♂️. Firstly from a corner, it’s knocked in the box and after a bit of a scrimmage find its way in. 2-1. Again it’s a corner that catches us out to make it 3-1. The only notable chance of the half for us comes as Lewis McNab puts in on a plate for Jay Brown 3 yards out who somehow doesn’t score🤷♂️. Admittedly though, the 4th goals wasn’t too shabby as a free kick is skelped top corner from about 25 yards. 4-1. Not long before the final whistle a defensive error puts the GS front man 1v1 with our goalie who finds the net to make it 5-1.
FT 5-1
Nowhere near good enough from us and a complete contrasted performance from last week. A few players missing but doesn’t excuse that second half performance. One more league game to go in couple of weeks as we get the old firm weekend off as we host Gryffe as we hope to finish our turbulent league campaign strongly🤞
